Billy The Kid : To be pardoned?

Billy the Kid will be pardoned? According to CNN news today,New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson will issue a decision by Friday if he will pardon the outlaw Billy the Kid in the killing of a sheriff.

Billy The Kid

Just when the crime happened? Well, it was long ago, I swear it's really long ago. Here's a news excerpt about Billy the Kid's case.

He eventually was convicted in Brady's death and was sentenced to death, but he escaped from jail April 28, 1881, killing two deputies. Sheriff Pat Garrett shot Bonney dead July 14, 1881, weeks after the escape.

For a non-resident of New Mexico, this is non-sense at all but for the descendant of Billy the Kid and his victims, perhaps it's really a huge issue that needs to be ended once and for all.

Here's the argument of the Garrett family's as to why Gov. Richardson should not pardon Billy the Kid despite the crime happened long time ago.

"If Billy the Kid was living amongst us now, would you issue a pardon for someone who made his living as a thief and, more egregiously, who killed four law enforcement officers and numerous others?" the Garrett family wrote Richardson last fall.
